The person behind the pages

I’m Haven, a Chinese Canadian novelist, short-fiction writer, poet, and designer based in the Toronto area.

I write about memory, survival, identity, and the structures that shape a person’s life. My stories often begin with a record: a memo, a letter, a report, a sentence that sounds reasonable until you notice what it leaves out.

I’m interested in the distance between what happened and what can be neatly documented and in the people who have to live inside that distance.

What I write

My fiction spans science-fiction thrillers, speculative fantasy, dystopian stories, and quieter work about grief, belonging, and the difficulty of being known.

In Hunter Chronicles, those questions move through medical ethics, command, and autonomy. In Celestial Archivist, they become questions about truth and what reality remembers. Cinder Storm follows the human cost of institutional ambition, while Revnium — Between Breath and Memory explores a realm built around what refuses to be forgotten.

My poetry and short fiction bring those concerns closer: into a body studying a doorway, a city holding its ghosts in rainwater, or the objects that continue arriving with someone’s absence.

I also write transformative fiction, returning to worlds I love to explore their unanswered questions and the lives at their edges.

Behind the record

My background in criminology and social justice informs my attention to institutions, authority, and the language used to describe harm.

I want to know what it feels like to live beneath a system’s decisions. Who gets heard? Whose account becomes credible? What remains after a file is closed?

In The Quiet Archive, I approach those questions through essays, reflective writing, and occasional fictional artifacts. In fiction and poetry, I give them people, places, voices, and time.

Sometimes a story needs to stay with what a summary passes over.

Casseia Studio

Design is another part of how I tell stories. Through Casseia Studio, I create book covers and author, creator, and event graphics. I work with typography, framing, texture, and composition to give each piece an atmosphere while keeping its purpose clear.

Both writing and design ask me to decide where attention belongs, what a detail communicates, and how the parts hold together.

A note on names

Haven is the name behind this space. Some older work may still appear under Haven Lopaz, while silenthisper remains the handle you'll find across much of my online work.

For now, everything lives here under Haven.
